If ya know me, you know I’m quite horrible with dates. With that in mind, pardon me for not knowing, specifically, when the instance I’m writing about took place.
I do know that Gabriel was born in March of 2002 (YAY ME!). So, it’s some time in 02 and that’s about as close as I’m going to be able to narrow it down.
Next, don’t ask why I’m writing about it…..cuz I don’t know. Just a moment in time that I will likely never forget.
Here goes:
We’re living in Rantoul, IL in an apartment complex that used to be military housing for an Air Force base (somewhat ironic, huh?) We live in a townhouse. There is another townhouse connected to us, but it was vacant for most of the time we lived there (that’s an important part of this story….keep reading). Gabriel is a baby, but is sleeping in his own room, in his crib.
Gabriel was a whiny child. I’m pretty sure he was 6 before he slept through the night. Ok, that might be a slight exaggeration, but you get the idea…..the kid was up in the middle of the night….A LOT! Ria and I (especially Ria) are pretty hard sleepers, so the baby monitor we had was a necessity. It was one of those ticking monitors. With it was a plastic plate-like thing that went under his mattress and ticked so long as he was breathing. VERY annoying in the beginning, but that ticking quickly became nightly comfort for us…..first time parents….scared to death of SIDS.
Anyway, again, not sure why I tell you that as the ticking monitor has absolutely nothing to do with this story
.
One night, we go to bed and I’m guessing we’re both in a pretty deep sleep when Gabriel starts crying. I tell the beginning of this story via third person as Ria got up to go get him. I was sawin some logs! Ria gets up to get him and by the time she gets to him, he stopped crying. She comes back to bed. A little later he’s crying again. Situation repeats…..Ria gets up, gets to his room and he’s not crying. She comes back to bed and in the monitor he is crying….goes back to his room (take note that our rooms are right next to each other…not a long walk) and he’s sound asleep. She comes back to wake me up and I awake to a crying baby….in the monitor anyway. Gabe is still sound asleep. Remember the important part of the story above?? Yeah, our monitor wasn’t picking up the monitor next door…..uhhhh cuz there was no one living there. This went on for a few minutes….long enough to FREAK US OUT and then we went back to bed and all was normal again.
I’m not big into ghosts. I believe in the Holy Ghost, Jesus Christ, but you’d be hard pressed to convince me that there are goblins floating around out there. I have heard many stories though and went through a stage in life, many years ago, when a few of us went “ghost hunting”. I’ve encountered some unexplainable things and have some of the audio on tape, but I still laugh at it and don’t think much of it. The moment I describe above didn’t change how I feel, but it sure was freaky and I have no explanation for it either.
Like I said, there was no special purpose to this post other than I was thinking about it and thought I would share.
Ever had a similar experience? Do you believe we share this earth with spirits floating around? If so why? If not why? I’m curious to see/read/hear what others think about this stuff.
