Dadhood

media_http19mediatumblrcomtumblrkojg8vP8nS1qzpwi0o1500png_cgkrfvHsHDBtaFh.png.scaled500Could be a little quiet around here for a few.  Classes winding down, Christmas and 5 family members coming to Germany for a week will have me a bit busy:-).  If I don’t get a chance to tell ya, Merry Christmas!!  May you all discover or rediscover what this holiday season is all about!

Now then…..I won’t speak of parenthood today, but what I call Dad-hood.  It’s a dangerous job, but someone has to do it.  There’s a few things I have discovered in the past couple of years…..especially since Elijah was born..….

  • It would be much easier to pee sitting down while holding Eli, but my pride won’t let me.
  • There comes a point when the white spots all over my black shirt from spit up goes unnoticed by sight and the shirt only gets changed when the smell is too much to take.
  • Poopy diapers suck! Nuff said!
  • I used to be one that laughed and pointed at kids who HAD to be held.  I’d say to myself “maybe, just maybe, they should put the kid down and let him scream a bit.”  Well, I’M SORRY!  I would much rather hold his lil behind all day then listen to that crap!
  • I’m pretty sure the habit of talking “baby-talk” will be a tougher habit to break then the not smoking.
  • Speaking of baby talk—-People stare at me like I’m from Mars when I talk to Eli!  Listen people….When I talk to him in my regular voice, it scares him….DEAL WITH IT!
  • Children should only be allowed to cut teeth when Mom is home!
  • If Ria should ever get deployed, I will be flying home to my Mommy!  You can laugh at the rest of these, but I’m DEAD serious about this one!
  • If Ria should happen to get an extended TDY, I’m going home!  Not joking there either!
  • I have never looked forward to 5pm so much EVER in my life.

It’s not all so bad…..The above statements were meant to make ya laugh….I’m a pretty light-hearted kinda guy.  The life I live isn’t the easiest and I CAN think of other things I’d rather do, but I trust that God is in control and He must want me here.  That won’t stop me from complaining about it, but I’m only human and I’m quite certain I was not meant for taking care of a baby.  God be with the little dude….I hope I don’t ruin him:D.  He’ll walk, talk and change his own diapers soon, so I’m all good!  LOL  Kidding about changing his own diapers….Some of you might remember I potty trained Chaya….I look forward to shootin cheerios with Eli:-).

Ok, I’ve let him scream long enough while I typed this…..(yeah, that’s not a joke either:D).

Again, Merry Christmas!

Peace to you all!

Laughing w/you, not at you :-) …Kempi was a SCREAMER too, so I completely get the, "hold them so they shut up factor" I would like to encourage you that he will get better soon but who KNOWS!! Kempi is almost 4 and just NOW growing out of the "IT'S ALL ABOUT ME PHASE"…Hang in there and know God does cover ears etc. when needed, my children have survived thus far and LORD knows I am probably the WORST MOMMY IN THE WORLD…I tend to not have the sympathy, compassion, etc. that most mommy's have, I can be a bit hardcore, ONE of my MANY flaws :-) I did enjoy the laugh!!

Oh my, don't wish 4 years of this on me :-) !! Ria says the same thing about that "worst Mommy" business….Ya'all are nuts! I tend to be a bit "drill-sergeant-ish" myself :-) …..and I'm not the one in the military.

I personally think you're a wonderful Daddy :) If you weren't Elijah would be in daycare and Gabriel and Chaya would be in after school care until I got home. They are lucky to have you and Elijah is lucky to have the time he does with you. Lots of kids don't even know what a Dad is, but all 3 of ours definitely do :) I love ya bunny :)

Ya almost got your name right this time dear :-) . PastorTsWife….capital W :D

I absolutely love reading your posts. This one is great. There is no explaining why letting them cry works well with some and not at all with others. I know that colicky babies are hurting and miserable and being held close to a warm body stops the stomach cramps. With Eli he may be as stubborn as you are. lol He is probably over there saying "He thinks if he ignores me I will quit but I will show him!" You are a wonderful dad and you are learning to be a fantastic mommy's fill in. Keep up the good work. Have a great Christmas with your family.

No Donna, that's stubborn like his MOTHER! :-) He thinks he's sneaky. He'll be screaming and I'll turn around and there's not a tear in his eyes as he screams with a smile, focused on the TV. He just knows how to push my buttons……darn kids! :D
Have a Merry Christmas yourself…..hug my Mamma for me :-) .
