Resurrection Eggs

by Pastor T on Apr 8th in Our Life

It’s been awhile since the last What’s Up Wednesday, but there’s no better time then the present.  Inspired by THIS POST, I’m kinda irritated about the big deal made about Easter.  Not irritated that we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, but irritated that churches will make a big deal about what you call the eggs or the bunny.
Happy Easter Pictures, Images and Photos

I haven’t seen the email cuz it went to Ria’s account, but I guess everyone got an email saying that Easter eggs weren’t allowed in the church on Sunday, but Resurrection eggs are.   Hmmmmm.  Are they not the same flippin eggs, carrying a different title?

Like Carlos said over here, I’ll raise my kids, you raise yours, but while me and mine will love Jesus and try our best to understand why we do what we do on Easter, there will be bunnies and Easter eggs galore come Sunday.

Kinda like when we talked about my name, over here.  You can call me Toby or you can call me Pastor T, but regardless of what you call me, it won’t change who I am.  Call the eggs and bunnies whatever you want…..

THEY ARE STILL EASTER EGGS AND THE EASTER BUNNY!

No bunnies or Easter eggs @ my house, but my kids don't go without! We'll be @ church all day where they'll have an Easter (Resurrection) egg hunt, waterslide, petting zoo, horse rides, face painting, music and potluck! He's Risen!

People need to get a life! I can think of a whole lot more important things to concern myself with than whether it is "kosher" to talk about the Easter bunny or Santa Claus. Each family must do what it feels is right for itself.

I've never understood the big deal that gets made about the fantasy side of things, as long as it's balanced by the reality of Christ. This goes for all the holidays, but especially Christmas and Easter of course.

Like Bill said, do what you want to with the fun bits, don't compromise on the truth, and don't judge others :)

Absolutely!! That's my main point….I think the restrictions and title replacements bring more attention to the "fantasy" side of it anyway. When I explain to my 3 yr old what Easter is all about, I can wait 2 minutes, go back and ask her again and we're back to bunnies and eggs. I'll let her have fun with while she can :-) .

Just wanted to point out that we don't treat the Easter bunny like a Santa-type-thing. Not sure what the difference is, but my kids know that it's a guy in a bunny costume and they know the candy came from Mom and Dad. Didn't really think about that side of it making the post.

It has brought up some thought for me though…..Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Christ and Easter the re-birth of Christ. Not sure why it's ok for me that they think Santa is riding through the sky, but not thinking the Easter bunny exists….Hmmmmm.

To me, it's like the Pharisees accusing Jesus of working on Sunday when he was healing the sick. Jesus was trying to teach God's word, not teach how to follow every law or rule down to the smallest detail! If the children know the real reason we're celebrating this special day, then the rest is all in fun. ……….I agree about the "new" name for the eggs. I think that we are way too caught up in the smallest of details rather than the big picture!

I am late into this discussion, but thought I would leave a comment anyway. No Easter bunnies or egss (resurrection or otherwise) at my house or in our church.(No Santa either.)

From what I have read, guess I'm in the minority here. But what concerns me is a principle that these comments seem to indicate. "As long as I am doing my Christian thing, I can do anything else as well and no one can judge me for it."

To compare Jesus healing the sick on the Sabbath (Saturday not Sunday) to Easter bunnies is like comparing apples with monkeys. Jesus was doing the work of the father in healing that man and teaching the Pharisees that he was the Lord of the Sabbath.

No such teaching to be found with bunnies and eggs on Easter.

I do agree that I need to keep my nose out of your business, but don't forget that there are consequences for every action of life.

God is a God of the details as well as the big things.

    Just my thoughts

I have wasted too much time wondering what I'm going to say to a nameless person, but what is there to say really?
Nope, no Scriptural support for bunnies or eggs, but I would love for you to give any Scripture you choose to my 7 or 3 year old, explain it to them…then wait a few minutes and ask them to explain it back to you. THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND! and the freakin bunny or eggs isn't going to hurt them.
Yes, there are consequences for every action, including the consequence for judging others.
If you're convinced that God is concerned with the "details" of my kids looking for eggs and watching bunnies, there are some issues you may need to deal with.
They're not worshiping the bunny OR the egg.
But by all means make a big deal about it and draw more attention to the bunny and egg you so despise. Doesn't make a bunch of sense to me, but I'm not here to judge you :-) .

    Pastor_T,

I didn't say anything about judging your choice. When you put something on your blog and solicit comments, you have to be willing to accept the one's that you disagree with as well as the one's you like.

As far as my name, it is David Wellman, and my email address is dave@thewellmangroup.net.

I am truly sorry to have angered you with my response. I was not "judging" you, I was simply responding to the post. I don't expect that everyone will or should agree with me, but for you to say, "there are some issues you may need to deal with" is a judgmental statement.

The fact that I have not joined in to the contemporary celebration of Easter or Christmas is a personal choice, for which there are consequences I must face (like anger from those who do).

I didn't make any comment about your children worshipping the egg or the bunny. I am quite sure that they do not. I am sure that you are a loving Dad who wants the best for his children. We just happen to disagree on this subject.

Let's not let this kind of disagreement hinder our opportunities to agree on other more serious ones.

    Sorry again for the offense.

Dave, you have mistaken sarcasm for anger. I am fully aware that people do not always agree with me and their comments are welcome here. If you look through some posts, you'll see you aren't the first to disagree with me.
It was simply the impression I got from reading your comment. Granted, it is tough to translate the emotions put into words…..they always seem to be different, assuming the writer and reader aren't twins. But I am simply of the opinion that too much attention to a negative, will only turn out negative and in this situation, bring more focus on bunnies and eggs.
I have and will continue to follow your blog and tweets. I'm quite sure there are many things I can learn from you.

    Thanks for stoppin by!!

    Thanks for the quick reply.

I, like you, don't like to consider the negative. There is too much work to do before Jesus comes.

Have a great day – Dave (Stick in the Mud!)
