If your heart is not in it, you probably should not begin it.
I typed those words into Twitter a few days ago…..for no apparent reason. Well, I should know better than to think there is not a reason for EVERYTHING.
Those words brought me to THE WORD. I knew I had read them somewhere before. So, I searched.
It was a little letter to the Church in Laodicea.
I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. You say, ‘I am rich. I have everything I want. I don’t need a thing!’ And you don’t realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked. Revelation 3:15-17
The city of Laodicea always had a problem with its water supply. The water came via an aqueduct from hot springs, but when it got to the city, it wasn’t hot; it wasn’t cold; it was just warm. The church was no different.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t like to drink warm water. I want it ice cold or hot….in between just seems disgusting. To Jesus, the Church of Laodicea was just as disgusting. These people didn’t have their heart in anything—They didn’t care—They were just there.
Are you just there? Don’t want to get too involved? Not an “avid sinner”, but happy? Self-satisfied? Is it all about YOU?
Lemme tell ya what I think and I’m pretty sure Jesus would agree (cuz His Word says so)…..There is NOTHING more disgusting than a half-hearted, nominal Christian who is self-sufficient. Don’t settle for following Christ half way—
Let Christ light the fire and then GET INTO THE ACTION!
