You Need To Go On A Diet

Also blogging on this, the last day of
, is Tressa. Make sure to go over and check out The Strickland Site.
Have you ever watched one of those food eating contests? What is your first thought? Do you laugh? Does it turn your stomach a little? Are you amazed at how one person could ingest so much food?
Have you ever witnessed a restaurant employee taking the trash out, dumping all of the unused food into the garbage bins? Disgusting right?
Ever told your kids, or been told by your parents, “clean your plate!!”? Man, do I really need to eat those peas? What difference does it make?
Today, as I take part in The 40 Day Fast, I pray for a shift in focus. I pray when we see, watch and hear these things, we no longer laugh; we no longer keep driving as if it is such an unimportant part of our day; we no longer complain about what we HAVE to eat. I pray, from this day forward, we remember the photo above, as it encapsulates only a small fraction of those who are desperately hungry. I don’t pray for pity, because to feel bad, simply is not enough. I pray for ACTION! I pray for us, bloggers and blog readers. I wonder how many of us feel bad for the hungry and spread the word, dropping links here and there to get other people involved, and do not ourselves take action. I was one of those. I thought “wow, this hunger thing is horrible….let me see if I can draw some attention to them.” And then I went on with my normal day, shoveling food in my face as if I were the only person on Earth who needed to eat. Well, today I’m on a diet. It’s not like the 150 previous diets I’ve been on. This one isn’t solely to make me look better or live longer. This diet can be summed up in a sentence: If I eat less, I can give more. Pretty simple, right? This is the kind of diet we could all stand to join in. Save your money….Then give it away. That’s what it’s all about!
There are so many organizations worthy of listing here and I really want to list them all. Compassion International is a popular one and they do so many great things for those kids. I have yet to adopt a child, but instead of going out to eat last week, I donated that money to them. I’ll do that regularly and will hopefully get connected with a specific child soon.
The organization I am highlighting today is The Hunger Site. Not only can you give your resources through this site, but site sponsors make donations based on the number of clicks on the “Click Here It’s Free” button.
There are also numerous other worthy causes you can donate to through The Hunger Site. Go check em out and together we WILL change the world!
